In this short prequel to My Soul to Take, the first installment in the Soul Screamers series, Rachel Vincent plunges the reader into the world of teen Kaylee Cavanaugh. Kaylee is a bean sidhe or banshee who feels the urge to scream when she senses someone is about to die. It's important to note that My Soul to Lose should be read after My Soul to Take as it provides some of the back story to certain events that are merely touched upon in it's sequel. In this prequel we are given insight into what it was like for Kaylee the first time she came into proximity with someone about to die and how she ended up in a mental ward when her aunt and uncle found themselves out of their depth to help her. A tantalising introduction to the series as it leaves many questions up in the air.
I thought this was a really good story although the reader sounded bored and needed a little more enthusiasm when reading the audio book. Other than that, I thought about the movie with Tom Hanks called "The Green Mile" after hearing the end of the story. This book also made me wonder if there would be a sequel to this book or was this the end? Again I'd like to thank goodreads for directing me to this free audio through amazon!
Wow, I seriously hope to see what happened to this Lydia girl!
