review 1: I have read a lot of yoga and wisdom-tradition literature, and there is no doubt that Ana does things differently. The story of Ana's life is difficult. The yoga she practices and teaches is somewhat advanced (check out her videos and clips on the internet, she is an amazing athlete). The tone she uses to convey her story and her yoga verges on harsh. So, why, you may ask, does she get the "I really like it" (4 star) rating from this reviewer? The answer is, that despite the hard to listen to story of her life, and the harsh tone that sometimes makes one cringe, I really like Ana's message to the world. She fought long and hard to make her yoga her own, and you can tell she is committed to helping others find their own way. This book did change the way I practice yoga: I'm... more bringing more energy into the challenges and I now have genuine curiosity regarding the fears. And it reminded me, as I often need reminding, you can't possibly know what someone has been through, until you walk a mile in their shoes. As a teacher of yoga, heightened awareness is indispensible. So, if you can live with the gruff and tough delivery, you might find yourself enjoying this "fierce medicine." It offers many worthwhile tools for healing body and mind.
review 2: I gave it two stars because I would like to fool myself that I didn't waste my time with this book. HUGE disappointment. Fierce it was but I feel like I have read this story so many times. I was disappointed that the author focused more on her bio than the healing process. I think if you are a fan of Ana Forrest or a follower of Forrest Yoga then you may enjoy it as the book is a self promotion of her practice and an absolute finger pointing of everyone that hurt her in life. Not much enjoyment to be shared. less
