review 1: As a new mother myself, I loved Operating Instructions (even though I skimmed most of the Christian bla-bla-bla), so I was hoping this book would be like "Operating Instructions Part 2." And it mostly was. There were lots of sweet moments in the book, and I loved Sam's and Amy's e-mails. If I'm being honest, though, Anne lost some of my sympathy when she complains about how ungrateful Amy is after Amy gave her a pedicure and foot massage. (Mothers-in-law. Ugh!) There are a lot of snippety comments about Amy, who seems like she is doing a fantastic job. Ah well...at least the book was courageous in its honesty.
review 2: Somehow I did not realize how God-centric this was going to be (I did not know who Anne Lamont is). Contrary to what one may think, I want to b... moree clear that that is not why it's getting only two stars. That is because I didn't appreciate her tone in many of the little sections (especially when over-generalizing entire cultures...). And she gets two instead of just one because there were a few laugh-out-loud moments, or at least chuckle-out-loud, and I'm in a position right now to be susceptible to anything regarding how people deal with new family dynamics. less
