review 1: I admit that I picked up this adult humor book that parades as a children's picture book, to catch up on my Goodreads Reading Challenge while I'm currently reading Outlander (800+ pages). Its humor is overall is subversive, but there is a quote in the book, spoken by an anthropomorphic tree, that struck me as quite lovely: “Sometimes I feel alone. Some days are long and hard. But when I look out into this world, I am struck by the impossible beauty of it all. Those billions of magnificent accidents that led us to where we are today, that led us to paper planes and nautilus shells and the tiny, crooked smiles of children. When I think about the small perfections of the world, I have faith that my time will come. I have faith that someday, a warm light will flood over me ... moreand I will find peace.” It's a shame for the tree that the next page shows a lumberjack approaching it with an ax.
review 2: I didn't want to add this book on Goodreads because it's totally cheating vis a vis my 52 books in a year challenge. But I *did* read it and I must list it somewhere. I could add it but not put the date finished, and it wouldn't show up as part of the challenge. But then in my list of books it would just be an incompletely detailed entry and that would drive me nuts. So here we are. Oh, the book? It was cute. Well done. less
