review 1: I read other books narrating Tehran's horrific political status during and after the outing of the Shah..they appealed to me more than this memoir. The Arabic translation might have been not exactly honest considering the translator is an Iraqi, but in general I expected more of this book and I was disappointed. I couldn't like Azar and thought she's judgmental, selfish and unfair towards her parents. I will try to re read it in English again though.
review 2: Several years ago, I read an article in De Volkskrant about this book, where it was praised by the reviewer. I think I expected something a little different, but it was interesting anyway. ... more very interesting to read a personal history of someone in such a different culture and country, living during revolutionary times, but also seeing one person's way of looking at that world. I hardly ever read non-fiction, and I've never read memoirs, but this was a nice first. less
