review 1: I’m a big fan of Betty White but not so much of television, so this book was a mixed bag for me. Ms. White’s writing is entertaining and often humorous; she’s quite a storyteller. She has an impressive TV resume, having worked with many famous actors and producers. After awhile, I started losing track of the various “characters” as she moved from show to show throughout her career. But like I said, I’m not a TV buff.My favorite parts were about her romance with Allen Ludden, whom she met while a guest on Password; her lengthy tenure on the Mary Tyler Moore show; and her early career when television was a new media. Imagine working on a live TV show 5 hours per day, 5 days per week, including all commercial spots, then adding another live program on Saturdays! I... more also enjoyed hearing about Ms. White’s various pets; it’s obvious from her writing how much she loves animals. There’s plenty of inside information here for fans of Golden Girls, MTM, game shows throughout the eras, and TV celebrities who became Ms. White's friends during her 60-plus year career. TV fans and trivia buffs will love this book. Throughout, Ms. White comes across as warm, friendly, and funny. She’s one of the all-time greats, as entertaining in her writing as she is in her acting.
review 2: This book was a wonderful read! Not only do you get to learn about an amazing strong and sweet women, but also the changes that have occurred in the media throughout the years. It is very interesting to read about her life in showbiz, especially in the earlier years which happen to be my favorite. Including the times when radio was the rave and when television first came into play. Her love with Allen is very sweet including his proposal and how she answered! When times got tough she dealt with the tradgedy the best she could, and was very strong! I enjoyed hearing about her relationship with many great stars, including Lucille Ball! I would of liked to have known a bit more about the relationship between the golden girls, past the show, but at any rate it was nice to hear about the show anyways. I also enjoyed hearing about life with Elizabeth and Date with the angels. This book is like having a conversation with a great friend. Such a wonderful read that I thoroughly enjoyed. less
