review 1: I grew up a devoted fan of TPIR. I am still so happy that I was able to attend a taping of the show prior to Bob's retirement. Even though I did not get called to "Come on Down", it was a long time dream fulfillment to be there in person. In reading this memoir, I now know that TPIR was only one small piece of a long and busy career in the entertainment industry. You'll always be a priceless memory to me, Bob Barker!
review 2: I'm surprised he had any help on this book, because though I obviously do not know Mr. Barker, I feel like the book is all his writing. It reads like he is talking right to you, it's not pretentious at all and feels like he just wants to tell one of his friends the story of his life. It could use some editing as it jumps around a lot and
... morementions a few things more than once, but maybe that feeling of just shooting the bull is what the publishers were going for. An easy read that makes you realize the incredible life he's lead, including time in the navy, the 37 years he spent married to his wife, Dorothy Jo and where his deep compassion for animals came from. Makes me want him as a substitute grandparent...I'd like that a lot. less
