review 1: This is a biography worth reading. My understanding of O'Connor is definitely deeper, and Gooch has done a lovely job of providing insight into an amazing mind and the writing it produced. I don't read a lot of biographies as too often the biographer can't get out of the way of the subject--Gooch doesn't fall into this trap; he gives us a well-researched, straightforward presentation that honors and respects O'Connor, her faith, her work, and her life.
review 2: I greatly enjoyed Flannery and wanted it not to end. I suspect having read the body of Flannery's stories coupled with a great affection for her art, wit, and faith, Gooch's bio was gobbled because I was hungry and to me it it was a real good meal!
