review 1: I have always loved Carol Burnett. Always wanted to meet her. Although I can't imagine losing my daughter, I am left disappointed and feeling as if something was missing...I did not become invested in their story or relationship. I can't explain it other than as an emotional person I just didn't feel it which is surprising to me. I would've loved Carrie if she was as described and feel sad she is gone so young with so much left to give to the world, however.
review 2: I listened to the audiobook version of this book, and highly recommend those who wish to read it do the same. Carol Burnett reads it herself, giving an extra level of intimacy to an already very personal book. Also the audio book included a song recorded by Carrie which I doubt was included in the
... more book version. Those who come to this book expecting the light hearted "Carol Burnett Show" style humor, will be disappointed because this book is as exactly as it says : a mother and daughter story.Touching and moving this book is separated into two parts. The first being Carol's memoir to her daughter, the second being the unfinished manuscript for Carrie's book.I won't critique the first part, as how can one critique the personal memory and relationship between Carol and her daughter? I may not have agreed with them on everything but they both are sweet ladies, and I feel sorry her daughter passed in her prime. The second half , "Road to Graceland"Follows a 23 year old LA clubber Kate , who finds herself in a road trip to Graceland with a cowboy.Being unfinished, one can only judge the book by what survives, and it seems a very deep and interesting book. Unfortunately Ms. Hamilton only finished a large chunk of the beginning , a middle point, and a short chapter at the end of the book. From what's present, that book feels as if would easily become a noted book in the pantheon of modern high-interest. less
