review 1: This is an absolute must read for those in the copy editing business. Superbly written and beautifully placed. It reads like having a conversation with an older, wiser, more experienced veteran of the trade who sympathises with you and gives you the most pertinent advice. All editors would benefit from this one, such is my belief. Especially if you are prone to days when you just refuse to edit another badly typeset proof or disastrous manuscript. Excellent book, which coincidentally fell into my lap at a time when struggles were reaching new heights. Pick it up, read every word and you will learn a thing or two.
review 2: This is an extremely helpful and entertaining book. While it is originally intended for editors, it would also be a great for writers, wheth
... moreer publishing or trying to become published. As other reviewers before me have noted, though, it did make me wonder who would ever want to be an editor. Oh, wait.... Much of the advice is more useful to those working with a company (as well as with CMOS, which is only forgivable because the author works for Chicago), despite the whole section on freelancing. That said, I still find it sitting on my desk in case I need to use it as a reference. This book also includes a section in the back with dozens of other suggestions for "Further Reading." If you find nothing else useful in this book, I would suggest buying it simply for that.If you have any interest in editing, definitely read this book. less

Just less engaging than I had hoped. Maybe it will be more relevant once I actually have an editor.
