review 1: I feel like I read a different book than the rest of my book club. I didn't find this a quick and uplifting read. I did find it positive, enriching, painful, and beneficial, however. Humor: for a bit it felt like reading Forest Gump; Herz-Sommer knew so many famous people and was around for so many significant world events!But then we got to Thiersenstadt and things got real, fast and hard. I didn't mind the non-sequential chronology, but I did wish for a timeline and list of significant people/characters in the end pages.
