review 1: I loved this book soo much. Kara was your typical teenage girl in the beginning. She went to parties, did dance, and had a cute boyfriend. She thought her life was amazing and would not trade it for anything. She pushed away her old friends Amanda and Jack. She gets upset when she see's another girl hanging on her boyfriend at a party. She ends up leaving the party and driving while upset. A drunk driver runs a red light and crashes into her and after that her whole life changes. When she wakes up Kara can not figure out why she is not able to feel her legs. The doctor then tells her that she is paralyzed from the waist down. Kara does not know what to do about this. She does not want to be wheelchair bound. Jack and Amanda stay by her side every day after the accident. Her... more boyfriend and the popular friends don't even send her flowers. After that I got mad whenever she missed him or wanted to see him. Curt became mean and rude to her because he did not want to date a girl in a wheelchair. I liked that this book was based on a true story. Everyone should read it atleast once.
review 2: This book is now my favorite book in the world. I was so happy to receive an advanced reading copy of this book from Chelsie at the New Jersey Abilities Expo! Ever since Chelsie has been on the show Push Girls she has always inspired me and now that she has put her inspiring story into a book, is just amazing. I am in a wheelchair just like Kara. This book put my whole life and what I have gone through into words. I had read this book in two days and I just couldn't put it down. Whenever I had come across something that relates to my everyday difficulties and ways of thinking I would have to rush over and show my parents because somebody else out there in the world understands and lives through what I live through each and everyday. I love Kara's way of thinking when people say to you that your are so strong and are so inspiring and she thinks of it as us girls in wheelchairs don't really have a choice to be strong and we don't try to...it is just what we have to do. Another part that I loved is how Kara stood up for herself when people talked to her about what happened or throwing comments at her. When people say the almost exact same things to me I want to say the same things Kara had said right back to them, but I never had the gut to do as Kara did. After reading about how Kara stands up for herself it gave me self-confidence to do so when people say that kind of stuff to me. It was amazing how from the beginning to the end of the book how well Kara had improved from not only ability and mobility when being in a wheelchair, but as a person and her character. I will cherish this book forever and have gotten every single one of my friends to start reading it. Also, I'm happy to say I will be donating a few copies of Push Girl to my high school library in order to get girls my age to read this book and understand that life in a wheelchair isn't all bad, you just have to keep your head up no matter what you are going through, and us girls in wheelchairs can do anything "normal"(I hate this word)girls can (if that is what you refer to yourselves as) because we are totally normal and on top of that we can have the honor of being called a Push Girl!:) less
