review 1: I discovered Cheryl Fernandez Versini (formally: Cheryl Cole) kind of by accident and kind of not by accident on YouRube about 2 years ago when I was looking up some Britain's Got Talent videos. I can't remember why I was looking up Britain's Got Talent videos but off to the right sidebar was Danny Evans UK X-Factor audition. I grew up here in the States and like many people here, I have never heard of Girls Aloud or any of the singers from the girl group. Especially Cheryl. When I clicked on Danny Evans video of his room audition, my first thought was, "There's a UK version of the X-Factor?" My second thought was, "Wow! They really don't shy away from being emotional on camera over there." Being a Psychology student, Cheryl's emotionality is what really appealed to me.She... more is INCREDIBLY emotionally intelligent. It doesn't mean that she cries 24/7 or anything along those lines. In fact it means that she knows how to connect with people on a deeper level. She is able to recognize their strengths when they are in their weakest moment. It means that she is a strong woman who hit many rock-bottoms in life and didn't give up on the fight to rise up from the ashes. This is very evident in this book. The book is obviously not this grand-slam masterpiece worldwide seller that surpasses time like Pride and Prejudice. However, it was a very pleasant and very surprisingly, an engaging reading experience. I found myself being able to relate to Cheryl in some ways. I too, have a half-blood sibling, and remember the day my mom broke the news to me and my two younger sisters like it just happened recently. It was a very dark time in our lives for other personal reasons, and that piece of news was just the cherry topping to an already horrible situation I was dealing with in the family at the time. Cheryl's comparison of our press here in the States and the press in the UK is quite interesting, and in many ways true. I work in a bookstore and I have to deal with those tabloids nearly every single day. I have to stare at them nearly every single day, put them up, and straighten and re-straighten them nearly every single day. They sure know how to sum up a whole article into 3-5 words on the covers. It gets really old and really that is the reason why I stay away from ever buy those mags. The difference in size is also evident. All of our exported British mags are larger than our own mags. Everything is printed BIG too. Cheryl's life story has really taught me what it truly means to be a human being first before you're anything else in life. Cheryl knew her destiny was to be a performer, she is a singer and dancer, by all rights she is a celebrity. I am studying to become a Psychologist in hopes of working with Doctors Without Borders one day. We all have our own hopes and dreams of becoming something in our futures. We get inspired by people we call our role models and we are equally able to inspire others around us as well. Even celebrities get inspired by their own fans. But at the deepest core of it all, we are first and foremost human beings. Flawed and not perfect, we make mistakes, some of which are costly, and others not so costly but still enough to damage reputation and your self-respect. Your self-worth. How we get up from our flaws and imperfection is what makes us the people we strive to become in correlation to our dreams. Cheryl's life has really proven this. And this is why I have nothing but the deepest respect for her and celebrities like her.
review 2: A great read. This book wasn't on my to read list, I wouldn't say Cheryl Cole is one of my favourite stars but I do like her personality and I like quite a lot of Girls Aloud recordings/used to like watching her on X Factor etc. I saw Cheryl on the Allen Carr chatty man show and she was promoting her autobiography and I just wanted to read it then. I thought she came over really well on the chat show and so I downloaded the kindle sample. It was surprisingly good so I bought the full kindle edition. Cheryl said on the Allen Carr show that so much rubbish had been written about her that just wasn't true and that this was her chance to set the record straight. This is very well written and starts from her childhood and how Cheryl and her family had no luxuries and quite a hard life. From an early age Cheryl shone at singing and dancing and actually got a scholarship to spend some time at The Royal ballet school so she really has some solid training, something I didn't realise. Cheryl won quite a few talent shows at this time. The book is an easy read which keeps your interest going. It has a good selection of photos from childhood right up to the present day. She tells everything like it is including Simon Cowell and her marriage to Ashley Cole. She doesn't bad mouth Ashley she just says what went wrong with their marriage and I really admire how mature Cheryl and her family are in that they can all get on together with Ashley now. This wasn't a book I would have been rushing to the bookshop to buy on release day but in fact I found it a great read, it really changed my mind about Cheryl. Well done Cheryl. less
