review 1: When his hero, the Defender, dies unexpectedly, some of his superpowers are passed on to Andrew Ryan as fall-out from the blast. As Andrew contends with thieves and the Magus, a villain intent on obtaining his powers for his own use, he also must deal with bullies at school from whom he must hide his new abilities, and trouble on the home front. To make matters even worse, he is unable to control his powers efficiently. If Seatown is to have any chance of surviving, Andrew must learn to harness his abilities. Parts of this book are quite amusing, including how Andrew prefers being called Sparrowhawk but ends up being known as Smash for obvious reasons.
review 2: The moment I came across this book I thought of my two sons. A little superhero of their very own t... moreo immense themselves in. The artwork helps to bring the characters to life and the many conflicts that our hero has to deal with provides examples of what immense fortitude can overcome. Hopefully the stories will be never ending. I am grateful for winning an advanced copy for my boys and know that Smash will be forever present in their bookcase. less
