review 1: The ending was quite the savior for this biography. The first half of the book consisted of an account of a lady with no distinctive attributes except her apparent beauty and the magnetic abilities she possesses on men. I didn't have a slight idea of who Christine Granville was when I started reading, so the significance of her early escapades weren't really interesting to me. The effort put in by the author to create such a descriptive and detailed account of Granville is admirable, especially when looking at the secretive circumstances of the personality written about. Negatively, I felt the account drags on a lot, which tires a leisure reader like myself, who's not that interested in precise historic practice (excessive footnotes and whatnot). The author revives a long ... morelost person with articulate detail and brings out the human Granville, the one that loved and gave her all at a time of war, for both personal and nationalistic reasons. Finally, I felt the ending was magnificent. Both the actual events and the brilliance of the author combine to a thrilling final chapter, invoking sadness and pity, as well as sheer disappointment. I recommend it to WW2 enthusiasts and readers with a lot of free time.
review 2: as some reviewers said.. "parts of the story bogged down" not too sure if I can agree totally, however as per usual the book would have benefitted with a bit more judicious editing Now as for the kernel of the story: all good! Amazing that some personnel of this era were so passionate in their beliefs. We as a whole will not know how much war/conflict can motivate oneself.. especially the woman, aka fairer sex? Absolutely one of the best unknown heroines of modern day history..found it somewhat surprising that her "luck" ran out in such a way as her previous adventures were not able to contain her less

Slow, slow read. Interesting life story but told as a dirge.
