review 1: Gimmicky (every story is 1001 words long and there are 101 of them, making a book that is 101,101 words long) but ultimately a lot of fun. If I were more familiar with some of the British politicians and other minor celebrities (George Lazenby?) this would probably be a five star review. At first I wasn't even sure if this was fiction or non-fiction, but it turns out that all the encounters (Marilyn Monroe with Frank Lloyd Wright, Rachmaninoff and Harpo Marx, James Joyce and Marcel Proust) are carefully researched and well-documented, with copious footnotes that are as much fun as the book (and presumably make the 1001 word game possible). As a 2.99 Kindle bargain book I can highly recommend it.
review 2: Because this is a British book, I'll admit that I did
... moren't know who some of the people mentioned in the book were. That being said, it didn't affect how much I enjoyed the book. Each segment was told in such a way that my not knowing didn't matter. It was still really entertaining. And, if you consider yourself an anglophile, yet you have that embarrassing lack of knowledge of famous historical members of parliament and such, this book will remedy that in a far more interesting way than history books might. less

Entertaining and cute, even if you get the idea halfway through
