review 1: I listened to the audiobook. Wow what an ordeal this family went through when the father, a police officer, was shot in the face as retribution for standing up to a local crime boss combined with the fact of dirty cops on the force who didn't really want the incident looked into. I liked the fact that is was told through the eyes of the father and daughter because as you can imagine their recollections were quite different. It explores revenge and what that does to a person and the importance of family- no matter how imperfect. The family remains intact even today with the Officer and his wife having been married over 40 years. Impressive.
review 2: The genre of this book is non fiction and it is an autobiography. A cop who has a family is shot in the neck, hea
... mored and face and he has to undergo serious surgery that may last years. His children, Eric, Shawn and Cylin become secluded from the world, due to the incident with their dad they are always under constant surveillance from cops. The children start to become very negative about the world around them, Eric and Shawn always got into fights with kids around them and Cylin was put into a special class and felt cut off from most of her friends. In this story I really liked Polly Busby. I really liked her because even though such tragic incidents happened with her husband she still kept an open mind and still received great grades in nursing school. Every character in the story was definitely real and their actions, thoughts and the way they spoke made the story seem so much more live. However for me, the story did not make me cry but I felt a lot of empathy for the Busby children. I really hate the fact that they had to go through all of that. The ending of this book was a great ending in my opinion. Not only did it show the drastic change between characters but it showed that their family got used to their life style after their father was shot but they were happy. In all though, this book is a very great book and I would recommend this book to everyone who loves real life cases and those who really love suspenseful stories. I personally don't like non fiction so this is probably the first non fiction book that I have read that I really liked. So basically, I have no other story I could compare this story. Read this story it's a very great book. less
