review 1: This review is basically my emotional reaction to the book which tells the story of an Australian doctor (Damien) posted to Angola and Sudan to work for MSF. He clearly documents the highs and lows of his experiences and writes in a warm, touching and at times appropriately humerus way. I admire Damien hugely and had to give this book 5* in honour of the characters in the book and the work of MSF doctors everywhere. I don't think I could do it.
review 2: Really good. Written in an easy-to-read and accessible style, the story pulled you in, and even though there were lots of places where it could have gotten too melodramatic or preachy, it didnt. There were a couple of places where the discussion of the aid-programs bureaucracy started to get a a bit much, but
... more then it picked up and we were away again. Uplifting and interesting, highly recommended. less

Simple but impactful book. Just shows how insignificant, selfish and even ignorant I am.

Such a great account of Damien's time in MSF - I love that it wasn't too sugar coated

An absolute eye-opener. I don't know how they do it.
