review 1: Amazing book from an amazing person. I really can't understand how anyone could give this book less than top marks. if you gave this book less than 5 stars you suck. Everyone should read this book so they learn how the judicial system really treats people. Echol's story is amazing, and not only has he became wise beyond his years from his experiences he also is a great and poetic writer. his phrasing and ability to capture feelings and memories is very skilled and compelling. it is very easy to picture yourself in his unfortunate shoes and shudder and thank your lucky stars it was not you. Killer content, and great delivery. very astute observations from a man held in stasis for 18 years, but through the force force of his unwavering will and magick was able to overcome in... morecredible odds and free himself from the death sentence the corrupt court system handed down on an 18 year old kid who they knew was innocent with the help of celebs like Johnny depp, eddy vedder, peter jackson and the dixie chicks.
review 2: I've read a number of books about the West Memphis Three (in addition to all the movies, of course) and this was an interesting addition - Echols reflects on prison life, the trial, meeting his wife and even a bit about life after his release. There was a bit too much reflection on "magick" (why do people insist on spelling it this way? Is it significant in some way?) but overall a worthwhile read for those interested in Echols and the subject. less
