review 1: Great memoir by Dan Rather - journalism/news certainly has changed drastically over his lifetime. What I found most interesting, yet sad, was how very politically motivated the networks are. Investigative journalism today seems to have lost its independent viewpoint and is affected by the networks' need to make $$$. Rather calls it the corporatization and politicization of the news. Not a good trend!
review 2: Really fascinating book with the stories of behind the scenes of news and how dedicated reporters work to get to the truth. Very interesting and sad about the changes in CBS and their philosophy as they moved into the corporate world. While the book did jump from two big current stories in the beginning back to his beginning it did not seem to take awa
... morey from the book overall. It did seem to come full circle. Very sad that the whole National Guard about President Bush is not really a story anymore. People should be more concerned that someone who took our country into war so easily did not even serve himself. Amazing that in his 70s he was not ready to retire. Loved his opinion about news today and the major networks. less
