review 1: Excellent read if you're not only into bikes, but also the fun, reflection and exploration they allow you to do while riding them. This book is honestly not for everyone--for starters, if you don't really know who David Byrne is, you're going to get slightly bored (or maybe even lost) with some if his thoughts and ideas. It was nice to read a book about biking that did not have the bike as the protagonist. Four stars because it got a bit thick at times.
review 2: I loved the premise of this book, a series of observations, encounters and adventures made from the seat of a bicycle. The execution, however, was not so precise. I really enjoyed reading Mr. Byrne's words. We seem to agree in many areas on our politics and he approaches people and cultures with a genui
... morenely open heart and mind. However, as I progressed I felt nagged by the idea that the book could have benefited from a stronger editorial hand. While "bicycle" is in the title of a the book and was intended as a unifying theme, it really wasn't executed in the text. I felt that the scope of the book meandered and read almost as a kind of stream of conscious. I will try another of Mr. Byrne's books, though. I very much enjoyed his with and insight. I just wished there was more thematic focus and cohesion. less

Great read for one man's observations on the cities of the world with a bent toward urban planning.
