review 1: This was a very fascinating story about two of the most well recognized faces of the civil rights movement. One very well known picture with, maybe a little less known post script. I will say the lives these two women lived was extremely interesting. This book is proof that I think we still have a very long way to go with regards to race relations in this country. This is a happy, depressing, important, infuriating, amazing story I've read in a while. I think this book is a must read for anyone who cares about moving past racism and prejudice in this country. Given everything that has happened recently with Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Eric Gardner, and countless others...this book is extremely pertinent.I really only have one complaint about this book and that is t... morehe writing. Margolick very obviously did exhaustive research for this book and it couldn't have been an easy book to write. However, the writing is very choppy throughout and the sentences don't really flow together nicely. I still highly recommend this book strictly because of the subject matter though the writing leaves a lot to be desired.
review 2: I had a really difficult time getting through this book. The book itself, was mostly uninteresting and slightly confusing as what story was really being told. The first 237 pages was an odd mix of not only Elizabeth's story/upbringing and some of Hazel's story/upbringing but also a few other people somewhat connected (on the fringes) with the story of the Little Rock Nine. It was not until I hit page 238 that the story got interesting and really delved into the relationship dynamics between Elizabeth and Hazel. I was disappointed that the book barely plodded along for so long. less

Amazing that you can make a whole book from one photograph, but quite well done!

Loved it. Very interesting, and it is an aspect that is often not discussed.
