review 1: This had nice quick chapters and I enjoyed his writing. The perspective of the author on the deaths of the various people/animals in his life and how the people closest to them were reacting to it was very interesting. I haven't (fortunately) had anyone extremely close to me go through this type of experience, so I found it intriguing but not sure if I had lived through it or was currently going through it, I would have liked it as much. It might be a bit too close to home for some to enjoy.
review 2: I picked this book up at random at the library, started it and almost stopped reading it due to what I refer to as "high-brow" language. Before giving up, I came to Goodreads to see what others thought of it, and based on those reviews, I kept reading. I am g... morelad I did. Once I got accustomed to the author's writing style, I could not put this book down. The author weaves the sad stories of a client's execution with two very personal stories of disease and death, and shares what he has learned about living though them. less
