review 1: I received this book for free in a Goodreads First Reads Giveaway. As the mother of three high school students, I wondered if maybe I could glean some information from this book that I might pass on to help my girls achieve high scores on their SATs. I expected that I would be bored by the material, but I would suffer through it for the sake of my girls. The book was a pleasant surprise, packed full of tips for the SAT and some about parenting teens. The author began this project of unlocking the secrets of the SAT for the sake of her low achieving son. She believed that with her knowledge and some work, he could achieve scores high enough for colleges to take notice despite him hum-drum grades and absent extra curricular activities. As she sat for multiple SATs and tried ... moreout various tips, tutors and strategies, she did indeed uncover some valuable information about the SAT. She also realized that it isn't so easy to live our kids lives for them. Her son was initially resistant to the project. She made the project her own passion, and gave her son some room. The passion she felt for the project and the love she had for his son eventually led to some SAT bonding sessions and she shares some valuable insights about how to truly motivate teens. The geek in me loved the SAT info and I can imagine myself, like her, sitting as an adult in an official SAT, just to see how I do. I have shared some tips with my daughters and one plans to read the book after me. I'm hoping the others will catch the passion. Thank you for an interesting read.
review 2: I was very pleased to receive this as a free book through the Goodreads "First Reads" giveaway program.I thought the memoir aspects of the book were really interesting and engaging. They also made me feel like I am slightly behind with regard to getting my high schooler ready for college.I thought the SAT Prep tips scattered throughout the book were really helpful. I just wish they were indexed. less

This is very practical advice in an age where all are judged according to biased standards.

Very interesting examination of the current SAT test and what's necessary to succeed on it.

Interesting, although I didn't finish it before it was due back at the library.
