review 1: This was a fun read. Part SAT guide, part personal quest, I really enjoyed the author's obsession with the SAT and the journey she embarked on to achieve the perfect score. The author gives lots of good SAT prep and test advice, as she really put herself through the paces, saving the reader from having to weed through the overwhelming amount of SAT material and advice out there. I believe this book will help a parent guide his or her child through the test prep process, as well as entertain anyone who has even gone to the extreme for the kids, for self-fulfillment, or in this case, both. As a mom I'd wished there was a little more insight into the evolving relationship with the author's children, as well as more info on her son's final college selection process, as the p... moreoint of taking on this project was to help her son get merit-based aid for school. But overall, a really enjoyable book!
review 2: The part of the book about the SAT was excellent. It includes helpful tips on the SAT itself and other things such as what snacks to bring. I also enjoyed the way it was written with the little title names. However the actual plot about a woman motivating her teen to take the SAT didn't really take with me. It was more about the seven SATs taken by a woman who at first was doing it for her children, but later got so obsessed in it the story of her child was kind of forgotten. Debbie got so overwhelmed studying for the SAT she stopped caring about her children and started forcing them to do things like her. I don't remember if in the book they even said Ethan's score which was the whole point! Also towards the end of the book she gives a rude definition of teenagers saying, "... It's a terrible idea to let your child's friends become more important that you. Adolescents are out of their minds! They're impulsive, they make terrible decisions. .." To conclude the SAT part was great, but the emotion and tale behind it, was not. I apologize to Debbie as I know this was not how she wanted her tale to be perceived. less

The author can't decide whether this is a memoir of her experience or a "how-to" succeed on the SAT.
