review 1: This books holds no romantic illusions of baseball players. Think more of a Frat, a lot of young men in their early 20's, hoping to get through the minor leagues to the major leagues. Crude at times, funny at times, and touching in other times. To me the game is still magical and wonderful, but I try not to put too much of that on the mere humans that play the game. Some days you're the Bat and some days you're the Ball.

While it was entertaining and even had some good life lessons, it is not for the faint of heart. While the author portrays himself as fairly well-behaved, the juvenile, and often gross,locker room experiences he describes are most re... moreminiscent of "The Hangover". When you consider that most of the characters were young men between 18 and 21, that probably makes sense. Be warned that this is....hmmm...adult seems the wrong word, but you probably understand,Still, there is a poignancy to a book about a young man who has been in the system for several years, and is facing the possible end of his dreams. less
