review 1: Prior to reading this little inspirational memoir by Dolly, all I really knew about her was her botoxed body and the quote, "It takes a lot of money to look this fake." This inspirational guide filled me in on a lot more on who the hell Dolly really is.First off, I should clarify that I listened to the audiobook version which is narrated by Dolly herself. Second off, this isn't really an inspirational guide as it is a memoir of achievements, so it's really mainly for Dolly fans and not the average listener. She talks a lot about the importance of reading and dreaming but mainly does that so she can talk about her foundations and the work that she's done. Which to be clear, isn't a bad thing or anything. It's just not a guide to achieving your dreams or breaking any barrier... mores.It wasn't a bad listen (there's lots of songs as well) but thankfully it was only an hour and a half. Meh.
review 2: Dolly Parton's book encouraging readers to actualize their dreams is a slim volume but it says all that probably needs to be said. The book reads with Dolly's gentle plainspun style and emphasizes the power of faith and self-discipline. I have always loved Dolly's singing voice and admired her individuality. I read the book with increased respect for her entrepreneurial vision and her generosity toward the region that nurtured her youth. I started reading Dream More in a bit of a funk and finished it feeling refreshed and inspired. less
