review 1: Donald Rumsfeld comes across as a real person, with a long view of his experience and accomplishments. He is not a person to accuse or throw dirt or blame. This biography includes his entire career up to the date of publication. He is very honest about his mistakes, and also gives his reasons for the decisions he made through-out his career, even under George W. Bush. I really appreciated his humor and wisdom. He sounded a bit defensive about his last couple of years under Bush, but that is understandable. He is, after all, a human being, and one I have come to greatly admire. It is no small feat to serve your country in such a decisive capacity, and live through getting kicked in the teeth by the press and opposition in the process. We really should be respectful of the f... moreolks who serve in these difficult times!
review 2: It is a long read but very well written. I read a lot of history, biographies and found I really enjoyed this book. It gives you a behind the scenes look at different administrations from Nixon to GW Bush. One fact I appreciate is that Secretary Rumsfeld did not turn it into a political ideology based book but kept it as a recount of his life and really a history based book. If you enjoy history then I would highly recommend this book. less
