Kaia has been on the run her whole life. The daughter of professional assassins, she knows danger—and she’ll do anything to survive. After her parents vanished during a job gone bad, Kaia’s spent the last year in hiding, trying to blend in as an ordinary teenager, and there’s no one who makes her feel more normal, more special, than her boyfriend, Oliver.

But when she’s attacked by someone from her mother’s past and Oliver catches her fighting back, Kaia’s secret is exposed. In a split-second decision, she flees the small town, taking Oliver with her. Stalked at every turn, Oliver and Kaia must protect each other…or die trying.

Five Kick Ass TV Shows to Binge Watch

OK, we’re all here because we love to read, but I HAVE noticed some crossover between those of us who love to read and those of us who happen to get obsessed with certain TV shows. I, for one, have always been a big fan of TV that takes my breath away. The first season of 24, for example, was intense. I swear I would be, like, biting the corner off my throw pillows watching that show. Here I’m going to recommend my favorite kick-ass, binge-watchable TV shows starring women and featuring a lot of action. Kaia, the protagonist of PRETTY FIERCE, would definitely agree with this list.

  • Jessica Jones – This show is not for the faint of heart. There’s a lot of violence, a totally unrepentant bad guy and a heroine who ain’t at all perfect. But that’s what we love about her. Jessica is one of the most reluctant heroes I’ve seen in recent fiction of any kind, which just makes her growth throughout the first season all the more satisfying, and makes us love her and root for her when she sacrifices herself for others. Her partner/boyfriend Luke Cage is a great match for her in strength and personality and her best friend’s bravery and loyalty are enviable. Also, that bad guy I mentioned? So. Very. Bad. You really can’t wait for Jessica to win because you want him to suffer so badly. NOTE: This is NOT PG rated on any level, so if you’re under 18 and reading this, please ask your parents/guardians/trusted adult-type-persons before you partake.
  • Alias – The first two three season of this show were some of my favorite pulpy, action packed hours of TV ever. Half the time I was sitting there going how did she just do that? And the other half I was drooling over Michael Vartan and Bradley Cooper. Yes, that Bradley Cooper! Jennifer Garner is great, her relationships with her dad, her mom, and her boss at SD-6 are appropriately dysfunctional, and the action is amazing. If I could be Sydney Bristow for just one day, I’d jump at the chance, just toe be able to roundhouse kick like her one time.
  • Buffy the Vampire Slayer – Buffy, seriously, changed my life. It was the first show other than Friends that I made an appointment to watch every single week , live, and heaven help you if you got in my way. This show is not only funny and pulpy and over the top, but the fight scenes got more and more complex and more and more breathless with each season. Though I will say seasons Three, Two, One and Four are my favorites, in that order, but you kind of have to watch the whole thing if you want to by my friend.
  • The Crown – Okay, so Queen Elizabeth is not going to be delivering any pile-drivers to any would-be assassins, but talk about a quiet kind of fierce. Wow. Claire Foy plays the queen with such a realistic vulnerability underneath her strength that you honestly forget she’s playing a part. Plus the decisions she has to make as queen, the way she has to disappoint her family for the good of the crown, it’s intense. I’m completely obsessed with this show and it’s all because of this incredible character who’s based on a real-live person! I can’t wait for the second season.
  • Stranger Things – You want to be Eleven. You just do. And if you don’t, you want to be Nancy. There’s some horror in this show, but the best part about it are the characters and their totally fierce loyalty to one another. I recommend this show to everyone I meet and they’ve usually already had it recommended to them by someone else. Hands down the best new show of the past couple of years.
  • Except maybe This is Us. Or The Crown. Or Big Little Lies. OK I watch too much TV. HAPPY BINGING!
