review 1: This book, albeit a tad slow going at times, proved a great deal about the complexity of families, and above all, siblings.I truly loved Eileen's frank and honest tell-all about her sister, the goods, the bads and the in-betweens. It wasn't all about how she has to be understanding and calm with her autistic sister. It was the embarrassing moments, the bad reactions, the guilt, and the crave of finding some form of explanation to help her through it all. I highlighted so many of her quotes, because they really echoed the meaning of the entire book."We never quite know what lies up ahead. All we have are these minutes and hours we are living right now, and we have to construct our happiness and our cures out of what we've got in our own pockets" (pg 129)Her sister, Marga... moreret, is a beautiful person. People with autism are amazing, even if at times they can seem crazy and out of control. But they can also see things more clearly and unobstructed than most other people, and Margaret is proof of that. It's wonderful that Eileen Garvin shared her sister with us all.
review 2: A honest look as a family deals with a autism. A family in constant crisis of never knowing or never being able to control behaviour, or dealing with each other. You see the pain but you also see the love and not giving up. In the author's honesty of this book, there is some pretty strong language which I thought was excessive and could have been done without. However, that being said, I realize that it is the author's expression of anger, pain and this is how it is. less
