review 1: I thought "Have You Seen My New Blue Socks?" was absolutely an adorable story. Everyone can be forgetful at times, as children and as adults. I think its important to incorporate that into your classroom. Anyways, this book is about a little duck who misplaces his blue socks and goes around to all of his friends asking if they have seen them. Everyone responds as if they have not seen his blue socks. When he comes up to the peacocks, they are the ones who help him out in locating them. They were already on his silly little feet! He is just absolutely thrilled he found them. We can all relate to the little duck on this part! I really enjoyed the rhyming in this book as well. You could totally surround a lesson around the rhyming in this book with your students in 2nd or 3rd... more grade. Loved that part of the book! The illustrations were cute and well done too. They kept the story moving forward and really made the story more enjoyable. As the story continues, spotting the blue socks on the pages is key to the reader! They are slowly revealed throughout the book. The illustrations were clearly done in water color and some ink, and were very eye-grabbing and colorful. Not only would this work with 2nd graders and 3rd graders for the rhyming, but kindergartners and 1st graders would simply just love to enjoy it too! Ultimately a great read aloud and I would love to have it in my future classroom!
review 2: With lovely soft illustrations and rhyming text - that is reminiscent of Dr. Suess - Duck searches for his new blue socks. He asks his friend Mr. Ox and he asks his friend, Mr. Fox. He even thoroughly searches through his toy box…Finally the peacocks spot "a touch of blue" underneath his laced up shoe….and the mystery is solved. Really fun read-aloud with lots of opportunities to engage with a story time audience. less
