review 1: I was looking forward to reading this with my book group. I like reading about strong women and other cultures and I thought this book would be interesting. I was disappointed.I really appreciated the look into the Afghan culture, but that was it. The book is full of contradictions and redundancies, and is poorly written. She is very naive. From what I read, she does not have the skills to be a world leader at this point in time.I wish her and her family well, but I hope this is the one and only book she writes.
review 2: "I was almost 4 years old when you were martyred. In that short time you only addressed me directly once, and that was to tell me to go away" Words written to her dead father by the author Fawzia Koofi. As I read her story it seemed I was s
... moreurely reading fiction. No one could have lived her life and survived.During the time the Taliban took over Afghanistan, she was getting married & only 17 years old. During this time I was on the other side of the world in my own world of what to wear, was he going to ask me out again, and how many times can I go to the mall in one day. I've always said, to be born in the United States is to have won the lotto. Put aside the fact she is a woman in misogynistic country, she persevered and became one of the few women in politics. She was or is going to run for President of Afghanistan in 2014. I say yes, Ms. Koofi is unsure. The threat of being murdered as her father keeps her uncertainty alive. less
