review 1: It is a well written book but I found some part specially about some politicians and their politics to be biased. Just because these people were from Ms. Koofi's area doesn't make them better than the other corrupt ones. As history tells us that all the Mujaheedin factions committed horrible crimes during the civil war period and that they killed tens of thousand of innocent afghan civilians I order yo gain power; then how can she call Ahmad Shah Massoud and Rabbani ( the two commanders from the north) heroes. Just because they fought against Taliban doesn't clear their previous crimes. I liked reading about her struggles as an Afghan women in the male dominated society but I found a lot of her opinions politicized. I understand she is a politician herself and can't critic... moreize as openly. But I was disappointed. I loved reading the memoir by Qais Omar " The Fort of Njne Towers" which gives an unbiased view of the war and all ruling factions.
review 2: A fascinating look into insider Afghan life and politics from a woman from a prominent Afghan family. Her father was martyred and she accepts that she may be as well, as she stands up for her beliefs and the rights of women and children in a corrupt and violent system. I come away with a better understanding of Afghan history and the current politics and much more sympathy for the people as a whole. less

Quick read. An interesting story, but very repetitive and self-promoting.
