review 1: Public library copy.Faithfully captures tone, voice, and spirit of the show as it should since the same writer and actors transferred mediums. For what it's worth, my wife and I stopped watching the show with season 4 as we lost interest along the way, but I thought this comic accurately depicts situations I could imagine happening in their live action show. And some of the best modern cartoonists lend a hand drawing the stories, covers, and pinups.
review 2: A graphic novel collection of the one-shot books featuring the rest of the Knights of Good characters from The Guild web series.A nice follow-up to the first volume that introduced the readers to the Cyd Sherman character.I have not seen the web series so this is all from the perspective of a newcomer.It ... morewas really fun getting to see the juxtapositioning of the real world people to their game characters.Seeing how their real lives shaped their game playing seemed very true to life. It very nicely touched upon the issue of internet friends and the relationships of the gamers.You can feel very close to virtual friends while not actually knowing anything about them.Some of the stories seemed to be stronger than others but it could have been partially due to the artwork which seemed to cover a pretty wide range of styles.In general the more cartoonish, the less I like it.Also the more cartoonish , the more characters have a tendency to change how they look overall.I feel this book would appeal more to people who are already familiar with the web series even though it is basically an introduction and set before the first season of the The Guild.I would have no trouble recommending fans of The Guild. less
