review 1: I really loved Under the Tuscan Sun, and expected something very similar from this follow-up written a couple decades later. Unfortunately, I found that the book spent about half the time describing the scenery and food (which I love to hear) and about half the time describing art (which I found boring as all get out). Perhaps it's just me, but I don't want to hear a painting described, I'd rather see it, but I'm fine listening to someone describe food and home repair all the live-long day. Also, listening to it on audiobook....Francis Mayes voice is just a bit grating.
review 2: I really wanted to like this book. I love Italy and especially Tuscany. I thoroughly enjoyed the time I have spent there (I mean who wouldn't enjoy vacation in Italy). However, this
... more book was extremely hard to get through. There were some very interesting chapters (example: difference between American and Italian children's menus), and even some good receipts that I can't wait to try out. But overall, the book didn't seem to have a purpose and seem to just meander around various topics. Almost seemed like she just took small sections from her personal journal or diary and publish them in a book. It was hard to get through. less

It was hard to keep focus towards the end....turning into a cook book...

Enjoyable in places. More of the same if one has read others by Mayes.
