review 1: Gave it a 3 because I read this in audio format and found the constant reading of recipes to be very distracting. Maybe that works in a hard copy format but someone should have given that a thought before they recorded it for audio. You can't copy down the recipes, if you should wish to do so, because it goes by too fast. Stopping and backing up is awkward. Not a pleasant experience, all in all. And the memoir itself was just OK.
review 2: At first, reading about her dramatic retrospective of her loves that didn't pan out was amusing- like listening to your lost friends' dating stories. But, after the 150 pages the fun turned into annoyance. She tries to throw in a chapter or two about self-sufficiency and focusing on herself, but that is thrown to the win
... mored to essentially serve another man 40 pages later. At the end, instead of becoming driven out of exasperation as she did from the next conquest to cheer her on to her dream of writing, I was on his side of finding her demanding and exhausting and glad the book was coming to an end, however abrupt its conclusion. The charm of a few of her recipes that are used to illustrate frustrations (such as burning soup) or express frustration as she multitasks between downloading music and cooking were cute at first but reading about so many dead ends just isn't as fun after a certain amount, which turns out to be the last half of the book and left me skimming. less

OK, I didn't like the storyline that much but I loved the recipes and plan to make several of them. I think I will stick to the mysteries that have recipes in them rather than listen to a list of Giulia's failed relationships. She wonders why - she gives away way to much way too quickly. I listened to the CD while cleaning house and cooking and found my mind wandering at some points in the story and paying closer attention to the recipes. I hope trying out some of her tips makes me a better cook.

It was an ok story; good recipes; however, they did get distracting when trying to read.
