review 2: The subject of this book unquestionably had aninteresting life. She was born poor in Poland, educated in Lithuania and France, emigrated first to Palestine and then to the United States. She spoke Polish, French and German fluently and after learning English she also took up Spanish so she could read Lorca. She became a respected art collector and friend to the Jansons, translated Piaget, and in her last years a philanthropist. less
