review 1: Imran Ahmad recounts his life growing up in Britain after his family moves there from Pakistan to escape the troubles. Ahmad is self-deprecating in his humour and endlessly naive, especially when it comes to women. He struggles with religion (who God is, and what's the difference between Islam and Christianity), with Western hero worship (he'd love to be James Bond) and all the trappings of the West (booze, bullying, and non-arranged marriages).
review 2: What a delightful read. With Ahmad’s wonderful sense of humour and in-depth questioning and reasoning this ‘Perfect Gentleman’, a ‘Muslim meeting the West’, does much to break down mindsets and get one thinking. I would love to see this book incorporated, universally, into the senior school curriculu... morem for critical review. This world would be a better place with more people like the author. less
