review 1: This story hit a bit close to home for me. I've found it helpful to read other women's accounts of the dissolution of their marriages, and I appreciate Gillies' candid story-telling. At times, her actions to "win" back her husband made me cringe however, it also made me appreciate my own responses to my own situation. The reviewers who complain about Gillies' social standing annoy me. It's no secret she was an actress. So what if she had an upper-class upbringing too? The reviewers who implicate that Gillies is not relatable because of her (perceived) bank account should really get over themselves. I think that just strengthened the idea that no one is immune to infidelity and divorce.
review 2: As I stated this book, I could not understand the bad reviews
... more. I liked how her writing was for almost the entire 1st half... Easy, not too victimized as you would think in a book about a divorce & philandering husband. But as her marriage crumbled, I liked her less and less. She turned insecure and possessive. While I think we all feel like that from time to time, her vulnerability was less "vulnerable" and actually almost passive-aggressive. And every time she said things like "which can be hard to do without a nanny" I wanted to hit her. Hard. I have FIVE kids (not two) and I don't have a nanny or housekeeper. I certainly don't build my worth on how my home is decorated. And I do it all. Every day. All day. THAT is not easy. Only read this if you're a wealthy WASP. If you're a hard-working, Midwestern-raised, middle-class human. Stop. Put it down. It will only make your eyes roll out of your head. You need your eyes. They're important. less

I read this book after I saw it in Oprah's magazine a few summers ago. Very well-written, flew by!

Heart breaking true story! Easy read! Writing is spotty, but easy for a tired mom!
