review 1: I really liked this book. There was lots of good content in it. My favorite moments were the simple life philosophy stuff they worked through together. They were both such incredible and talented minds. I loved the passage where Kerouac fiercely defended his novel. He had such a belief in himself that often crossed the line into arrogance, but I don't really care about that. I'm done writing this review, bad idea to write a review on a cell phone.
review 2: Jack Kerouac and Allen Ginsberg are perhaps the most renowned and beloved figures of the Beat Generation. This collection of 200 letters between the two chronicles the artists’ timeless friendship. Beginning in 1944 and ending in 1969, just before Kerouac’s death, THE LETTERS provides a unique insight in
... moreto the lives of these two artistic and literary giants. Not always in agreement, but forever bonded by a desire to enrich the other’s life—both spiritually and creatively—these two artists used the medium of formal letters to create a discussion that would forever change the poetic and artistic landscape of modern America. Vivid, enthralling, and, at times, even enchanting, THE LETTERS paints a picture of American life as experienced by two of the most controversial and prolific artists of the 20th century. A captivating read for avid lovers of all things Beat, or a splendid introduction for those who have yet to experience the Beat world of art and literature, THE LETTERS provides the perfect window into the lives of two of America’s greatest writers. less
