review 1: This is the book that convinced me that I needed to step my game up. I had heard my pastor preach about the importance of family devotions, but I never got around to it. After reading this book, I was certain that we needed more celebration of the Gospel as a family in our home. Nowadays, my wife and I end (pretty much) everyday with a time of prayer, singing and Scripture reading. Hopefully the Lord will bless us with children, and give us the honor of continuing this tradition with them. It has been a wonderful experience. The author was very gracious in commending the reader that Family Worship is not a burden to be imposed, but a privilege to rejoice in. He says:"Dear Christian, as you read this book, be reminded that Christ is your joy and salvation. He delight... mores in you, and family worship is yet another daily opportunity for us to delight in Him with those we most love in this life. May we be the generation that reinvigorates this storied and beneficial characteristic of the Christian life for the good of ourselves, our families, and the generations to come"
review 2: A good, solid introduction to the reason for, worth of, and practice of family worship. I appreciated his pastoral tone and graciousness as he laid out why this practice is so valuable. The personal stories he told of other families were convicting. He described interviewing a young girl for admittance to the Lord's Table and she started quoting Habakkuk because she had memorized portions in family worship. His appendices gave several examples of different structures for worship, as well as resources. The book is a good contribution to the growing literature on this lost practice. less
