KAURAVA (2013) 6.5/8 YES Mythological Fiction / Adventure Rs.117 (Amazon.in) Krishna Udayasankar [3.95/573 ratings Goodreads]

Review #426 (Book Review #126) :

I Guess last year I read GOVINDA, my first try of a new author and a new trilogy which was based on a Hindu mythological epic MAHABHARATA, the fictionalized and stylized adventure version of the epic war and events leading to it. Finally I completed the 2nd book of ARYAVARTA CHRONICLES by Krishna Udayasankar named KAURAVA, which take the mahabharata story ahead where it left in 1st book GOVINDA.

This is a wonderful series based on 2 books I read, making it more exciting adding up the fictional expressions, thrill excitement and adventure. It takes the story ahead where Dharma Yudishthir (the eldest brother amongst Pandavas and elected king) loses all his realm to Syoddhan (a Kaurava one of 100 brothers, and half brother of Yudishthir) in the game of dice, and how it reaches to the end which will give rise to the famous war and will be covered in 3rd book KURUKSHETRA. Here it shows how pandav brothers survive the exile in hiding alongwith Panchali, wife of Dharma, and how in the end Govinda (i.e. Lord Krishna) came for their rescue and to lead them to war.

Krishna Udayasankar is a more vocab and text oriented author, her books are more richer in language if compared to other authors writing in the same genre like Amish, Amish’s language is easy, even Krishna’s language is easy too still more richer, also the print of her books is small, more letters per page and book is around 300+ pgs. Her woven storg skill is marvellous, wherein she is able to hold the suspense page by page word by word. She is a good storyteller, I am now eager to buy the 3rd book. Where almost most of the Indians are aware of happenings of Mahabharata, the author was able to put forward the same story with more delight and adventure making it feel like altogether a new story. The characters are well-defined, each of them having a full space for development. Best loving and the central character is obviously Lord Krishna aka Govinda.

I will recommend this novel to all of you out there who 1. have read Govinda (book1) 2. who want to enjoy adventure and lot of epicness 3. who want to know some mythological happenings of India 4. who love Lord Krishna 5. who love reading good books or 6. who like Amish’s work. I recommend this book with rating 6.5/8.
