review 1: Interesting story, but it needed a few more pages to explain some of the unanswered questions. Did Henry and Shirley take and raise all 3 children? Or were they adopted by someone else? Were they always together? Did George ever marry Myrtle? The book seemed to end very abruptly, with just a short explanation that the author had in fact found Bertie, Audrey and Noel, and that they had good lives. That's it. No other info. Oh well, guess I'll just have to keep wondering...
review 2: I expected much more from this memoir. The story isn't nearly as compelling as it could be because the author doesn't transport the reader back in time. It's difficult for women today to relate to any mother - or her family members - being as passive as her mother was about h... moreaving her children taken away. She comes off as weak and we never do learn why she never shares the secret with her family. Very unsatisfying. less
