review 1: I really enjoyed this book. The first 2/3 is in the spirit of Twain's Innocents Abroad. A fun mocking of the ridiculous inside-out world of modern India.Not as funny, but more moving, the next portion of the story where the author relaxes and accepts things for how they are. And finally, we return to the many shortcomings of living in India, but we approach them with more strength.I looked forward every evening to returning to this book.
review 2: I was expecting a little more from this book than chick lit. I am ashamed to say that I found it engaging and read it in two nights...I have to applaud the author's honesty, in basically admitting that she is a privileged, entitled, shallow New York bimbo who on one hand believes herself to be cultured but on the othe... morer hand doesn't travel well out of New York. She eventually got acclimated to life in India, though. Maybe one day I will, too. less
