review 1: Everyone should read this book. I'm so wrecked and moved and worried for these girls' future! I don't even know what else to say. Just read it. It's an incredible feat of journalism and such a compelling story that I couldn't put it down. And then I wept because this is nonfiction. These women are real and are living an existence I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. It also completely changed how I felt about troops pulling out of Afghanistan. Goddamn, the world is complicated, screwed up and in desperate need of some miracles.
review 2: Although one individual was critical of this nonfiction account of the Afghan girls who live part of their young lives as boys, I learned a great deal about life in that continually war torn country. This book is very readable an... mored not intended to be an academic paper.Jenny Nordberg's first person account of her interaction with many women and girls living in Afghanistan today is insightful and interesting. Life for Afghan women today is not easy nor is it familiar to most Westerners. This book opens a door for better understanding of Afghanistan and its people. less
