review 1: I really like and appreciate this writer and these stories so much! They strike me as such unique and authentic studies of life in our post-Millennial malaise-state: keenly observed, finely captured, and beautifully crafted. I recognize these characters and identify with them. I especially recommend "Bewildering Decisions in Times of Mercantile Terrror" and "Middle Men" for their explorations of the resonance and impact of love, relationships, and grief. I would class Jim Gavin with Flannery O'Connor and J.D. Salinger.
review 2: Everyone says we don't have time for novels, while simultaneously telling us that short stories don't sell. It makes no sense. Especially when you stumble upon short stories this good. Subtle and literary without bogging down, these
... moreare incredibly readable stories of flawed characters. The characterization is rich, the settings are vivid and the stories moving. All the while...it's incredibly readable. Great book. less

These stories are REALLY So-Cal-ish. You know that because of all the Del Taco references.

Short stories about ordinary people. Well written but a little blah.
RealDesi
good collection of short stories for the 99% in all of us.

Hestia
