review 1: I didn't love it. I respect Joan Rivers as a comedian. I love her work ethic. I've never loved her since of humor. I'm guessing I am not the target market for this book. It's essentially just a bunch of jokes that all start with 'I hate...' Some of the jokes were genuinely funny to me, but not nearly enough to carry me thru the book with a smile. To me it was a bunch of mediocre jokes with very little reveal. The few moments where she mentioned her daughter or late husband I just wanted to know more. I like my comedians to reveal themselves. And if they don't, then their material better be top shelf quality. To me, this book satisfied neither requirement.
review 2: My brother got me a Barnes and noble gift card for my birthday and I couldn't decide what to get ... morebut I had been watching joan rivers stand up on YouTube and I found out that she wrote a few comedy books so I got this one and Diary of a mad Diva. I was sooo excited when they came. The new book smell was off the charts amazing. I haven't bought books in awhile, usually I get mine from the library but anyway, this one was kinda funny. Some of the stuff was just meh, there were one or two things that were so completely offensive I couldn't even smile while reading it. I don't find jokes about Jesus being crucified or a paraplegic being taken out of a wheelchair and made to flail around funny at all. It's really awful. I know joan liked to push the envelope and I get that but some things are just classless. Other than that I did enjoy the book. A few of the bits made me laugh out loud. I was in class also, so ppl looked at me like I was crazy but that's okay with me. I'm hoping diary of a mad diva has some new material that I haven't heard/read yet. She tended to do a lot of repeat jokes, and yes they're funny but it's just like.. You can only laugh so many times until you get a little sick of the line and crave some new material. Rest in peace joan. You were one fabulous Jew bitch less
