review 1: I read an interview with him in the Paris Review and wanted to read more of his essays. As a couple of the essays felt familiar, I assume I'd read them previously in the New Yorker. I really enjoy his style of writing, which is to simply share all sorts of information about a topic. I enjoyed the lacrosse article tremendously as well as the golf one. The limestone essay was great as well.I will continue to keep my eyes out for his work.
review 2: A good friend who has pointed me right for years finally had a miss. First John McPhee I have read and I'm not sure I'll do more. I found it arrogant and pompous, and many of the essays failed to read a final point besides how awesome John McPhee (who by the way went to Deerfield Academy and Princeton and writes f... moreor the New Yorker, in case you didn't know) and his awesome family and friends are. less
