review 1: This book may be useful to people who are considering whether new treatments or technologies might help their hearing loss, and even more helpful to those who want options for their hearing-impaired children. However, Bouton focuses on medical and technological solutions (she received a cochlear implant), so I didn’t find the book helpful for people like me who have developed age-related hearing loss and seek simpler solutions. I hope that her book, and the many comments on Goodreads, will encourage us to be more open about our limitations and come out of our auditory closets.
review 2: Not what I was expecting in this book. the author spent half the book whining about her own hearing loss, even though it didn't seem to me to be representative of the gener
... moreal hearing loss population. There was one good information there if you weeded through all the rest of it, but I found it boring. She also made one generalizations, makingt it sound like it applied to all hearing loss, when it actually seemed like it was not that common. less
