review 1: This was a great book about the making of a classic album that I grew up listening to. Caillat does get a bit involved with the technicalities of recording but in many ways it added to the story. He puts in just enough of the scandal and rumor about the band but doesn't let that hijack the story. Caillat is very good at recognizing the positive qualities and talents of all the members of the band, as well as all of the unsung heroes that make a rock band work. It was fun to listen to the music as I read this book. For anyone who loves music and particularly has memories of Fleetwood Mac, I would highly recommend this book.
review 2: I am a snob. I look down my nose at most things that are popular. One of the exceptions to this rule is my love of Fleetwood... more Mac. Ever since my roommate in college asked me on a whim if I wanted to see them in concert (The Dance Tour), I've been hooked. The Rumours album is a masterpiece. There isn't a weak track from beginning to end and I constantly discover new details. I devoured this book even though it's very poorly written (hence the three star review). In spite of its pedestrian prose, fascinating details about the songwriting, production and artists are revealed. Caillat is clearly bitter with several axes to grind (neither Nicks nor Buckingham can be happy with their portrayal) but provides insider knowledge that would have been lost for the ages. This will only appeal to diehard fans of Fleetwood Mac, but it's well worth their time. less
